今回は after next と before last の話をします。
after next は「次のあと」，before last は「前の前」ですね。それで，
the year after next「再来年」，the year before last「おととし」ということになります。
多分，the year after next (year)，the year before last (year) ということなんだと思います。
単位を変えれば，
the month after next「再来月」
the month before last「先々月」
the week after next「再来週」
the week before last「先々週」
です。
では，単位が「日（day）」ならどうなるでしょうか。単純に考えれば，
the day after next「あさって」
the day before last「おととい」
ということになりますね。しかし，next day には tomorrow，last day には yesterday という立派な単語がありますので，
the day after next → the day after tomorrow「あさって」
the day before last → the day before yesterday「おととい」
となるのです！
「日（day）」以外の一般形 after next，before last も覚えておきましょう。
