「中学英語のカリキュラムの勉強1（仮定法／that 節）」の続きです。
最近は中学でも感嘆文を教えるようですね。さすがに感嘆文の間接話法は習わないと思いますが，おまけに後ろで紹介します。
（１）形容詞・副詞を強調する感嘆文：How 形容詞・副詞＋S＋V...!
He is very kind. → How kind he is!
She studies very hard. → How hard she studies!
You play the piano well. →How well you play the piano!
特に難しくないので，具体例を覚えてしまいましょう。
ただ，こうした感嘆文は堅く響くので，very などで言う方が普通（ジーニアス英和辞典）
How kind he is! → He is very kind(!)
How well you play the piano! →You play the piano so well(!)
私はネットゲーム（FF11）をしているとき英米人から You are most kind. と言われたことがある（この most は very の意）
How hot it is! → It's very hot, isn't it?（ジーニアス英和辞典）
日本語でも「彼はすごく優しい！」の方が普通なので，あえて「彼はなんと優しいのでしょう！」のような雰囲気で言いたい時に使うようなものだろう
（２）名詞を強調する感嘆文：What＋(a)＋名詞＋S＋V...!
She is a very pretty girl. → What a pretty girl she is!（a＋可算単数名詞）
They are very pretty girls. → What pretty girls they are!（複数名詞）
You have very beautiful hair. → What beautiful hair you have!（不可算名詞；ジーニアス英和辞典）
What a day!「何て日だ」みたいな前半だけの形も見ますよね（What a day! のように形容詞がない場合は良い日の場合も悪い日の場合もある）
What a beautiful garden (this is)!（this is は省くのが普通；ジーニアス英和辞典）
How 感嘆文と同様，What 感嘆文も堅いが，どちらかというと How 感嘆文より What 感嘆文の方が口語的らしい（ジーニアス英和辞典）

how very という言い方も存在する。How very interesting!（ジーニアス英和辞典）
How (much) he loves her!（ジーニアス英和辞典）
（３）感嘆文の間接話法
感嘆文単体，また間接話法単体は中学でも扱うようですが，感嘆文＋間接話法はさすがに中学でやらないようです
（ジーニアス英和辞典は「間接感嘆文」という言葉を使っているようですね）
まず注意したいのは，間接話法では say ではなくtell や ask といった特別な動詞を使うことが多いということです
"I'm happy", he said. → He said that he was happy.（これは say でOK）
"I'm happy", he said to me. → He told me that he was happy.（tell）
"Are you happy?" he said to me. →He asked me if I was happy.（質問は ask）
※if は whether とも
"Go to school", he said to me. → He told me to go to school.（命令は tell）
"Please visit me", he said to me. → He asked me to visit him.（依頼は ask）
では，感嘆文はどんな動詞を使うのでしょうか？
「感嘆する」という動詞でしょうね……
私が勉強した頃は，exclaim か cry を使うと習いました（共に「叫ぶ，大声で言う」という意味）が，『ジーニアス英和辞典』を見ると感嘆文の例が載っていたのは exclaim の方でしたので，exclaim で説明します。やや難しい動詞ですが，例えば exclamation mark は「感嘆符（！；びっくりマーク）」のことです
"What a pretty girl she is!" he said.
→He exclaimed what a pretty girl she was.
He exclaimed のあとに感嘆文語順をそのまま続ければよく，she is を she was に変えることだけ注意です
感嘆文のところで，very を使った言い換えを示しましたので，
→He exclaimed that she was a very pretty girl.
cry に関して，『ジーニアス英和辞典』には cry that... は載っているので，
→He cried that she was a very pretty girl.
も良いんだと思いますが，cry の具体例を調べてみても，
He cried that he was coming.（いま行くと叫んだ）
He cried that he was innocent.（自分は無実だと叫んだ）
のようなものがヒットして，感嘆文の例はあまり見当たらないですね……
ところで『ジーニアス英和辞典』には，
She told me what a tall boy I was.「彼女は私に，なんて背の高い男の子なの，と言った」
という例文が載っています。伝える相手がいるので，tell を使ったのでしょうね
さらに，感嘆文は間接話法の話でなくても，
I was surprised how beautiful she was.（be surprised at の at は消せる）「彼女はなんて美しいのだろうと私は驚いた」
と言えますし，
I realized how kind he had been.「彼がいかに優しかったかということを私は実感した」
とも言えます。
